THE LORD OF THE BLOCS

Come and join us for our biggest competition yet!

14th November 2026

For the first time ever, we are running a comp that will take over our centre!

Brushworks presents: The Lord of the Blocs — a one-day bouldering competition where climbers from across Scotland will battle it out for £5,000 worth of cash prizes and the chance to claim the title of Lord (or Lady) of the Blocs.

With 30 qualification boulders spread right throughout the centre and then the top 6 qualifiers from each open category fighting it out in a final for top honours, and a cash prize, this is going to be one to watch!

Format

Scramble Sessions

The open qualification session runs throughout the day with staggered entry slots in 15-minute windows.

There are 30 boulder problems throughout the centre ranging from V0-V? giving everyone something to climb and challenging those who are hoping to make finals.

All climbs will have 4-point starts, a “zone” hold and finishing holds marked.

There will also be a handful of fun challenges dotted throughout the centre to try while you’re here.

It’s worth noting that the centre will be closed to the public for this event and only those who have booked a ticket can climb.

Finals

IFSC format.

4 boulders per category.

4 minutes per boulder.

Finalists in isolation between attempts.

The top 6 qualifiers from the open male/female categories qualify for finals.

Independently judged and enthusiastically spectated.

All finalists get a split of the cash pot.

Scoring

Scramble round

Scramble climbs are scored within Griptonite and points are split like this:

  • Flash – 10 points
  • 2nd attempt – 7 points
  • 3rd attempt – 4 points
  • 4+ attempts – 1 point

You can also receive a point for making “zone” on each problem. To earn this point, you will need to hold the marked “zone” hold – no slapping it as you fall!

  • Zone – 1 point

Following the end of the scramble round, the top 3 scorers of the Vets and Under 18 categories will be announced and prizes awarded.

Finals

The 6 highest scorers in the open category will qualify for finals and will compete head-to-head in an IFSC style finals round.

This will be independently scored by judges following the current IFSC scoring method of:

  • Flash – 25 points
  • Zone – 10 points
  • -0.1 for every attempt
